Syzygryd will be running at this year’s Beyond Wonderland event in San Bernardino, CA. The organizers have placed Syzygryd pretty much dead-center between the different stages, as one can see in the map below (with an adorable artist’s rendering!). The event is sold out at 43,000 tickets – hope to see you there!
So many photos and videos of Syzygryd are hitting the internets. We’re doing our best to keep up with everything so we can collect them all and show them off on here. In the meantime, check out this time lapse of setup on the playa that one of the crew, Joachim, put together. You’ll get a peek at some of the work that went into setting up this huge sculpture as well as how handy DPW and the Heavy Machinery crew is.
I’m writing this post from the middle of Black Rock Desert, sitting on an aluminum cube as music is composed, and translated into sound, light, and fire. That’s right, Syzygryd is up and operational at Burning Man 2010. There have already been hundreds of people stopping by Syzygryd to compose music, dance, and stare at the cubes and fire. If you’re on your way out here, dont look at the photos, just stop by halfway between the Man and Esplanade on the 7:30 axis to experience it in person. If you’re not going to make it out this year you can check out some of the great photos already posted by Dan Garcia.

Your intrepid narrator is a bit tired, so hopefully you will forgive us if this post mostly consists of pictures. . . . Tantalizing pictures to tempt you and whittle your appetites for what awaits you on playa.
But, first, a shout-out to Snatch from DPW’s Heavy Machinery who was instrumental in Syzygryd’s installation. She spent long hours with us on site, from early in the morning late into the night, patiently repositioning arms over and over again while we set up falsework, ran wires, connected cables, dug trenches for anchors, and wrenched bolts into place. Her focus, flexibility, good humor, and nuanced skill were invaluable to the installation. She is part of the hand-picked heavy machinery crew whose expertise help make possible those insane art installations you see at Burning Man. Thank you, Snatch!
